Description:TheNCI-H82celllinewasderivedbyA.F.Gazdarandassociatesin1978fromthepleuralfluidofapatientwithsmallcellcancerofthelung.ThemorphologyoftheoriginaltumorwasnotcharacteristicofSCLC.ThelineisabiochemicalandmorphologicalvariantofSCLCthatexpressesneuronspecificenolaseandthebrainisoenzymeofcreatinekinase.ItdoesnothavedetectablelevelsofL-DOPAdecarboxylaseorbombesin.Thecellsproduceanabnormallysizedp53mRNA(3.7kb).C-mycDNAsequencesareamplifiedabout25fold,andthereisa24foldincreaseinc-mycRNArelativetonormalcells.ThecellsarereportedtoexpressfunctionalANPreceptors,buttreatmentwithANPdoesnotaltertheirgrowthpattern.Thecellsstainpositivelyforneurofilamentsandvimentin.Thereisexpressionofv-fes,v-fms,Ha-ras,Ki-ras,N-rasandc-raf1mRNAs.
