Description:TheepithelialcelllineHBL-100hasbeenderivedbyE.V.Gaffneyandassociatesfromthemilkofanursingmotherandobtained3daysafterdelivery.Althoughtherewasnoevidenceofabreastlesioninthemilkdonor,andthepatienthadnofamilyhistoryofbreastcancer,thekaryotypeoftherecoveredcellswasabnormalasearlyaspassage7.Thislinewasabletosynthesizeasmallamountoflactoseandwouldrespondtoprolactinorestrogenbyproducingincreasedamountsofcasein.Electronmicrographsrevealedmicrovilli,tonofibrilsanddesmosomes.
